The holidays have arrived! Let's face itâwe all want to look our best while enjoying gatherings with family and friends, not to mention attending the most lavish parties.
We all have our challenges when it comes to preparing for those holiday parties. Here in Miami we have zero cold weatherâI always say we live in âperpetual summer." The temperature in Miami is typically in the 80s in December, which is usually a much more chilly month everywhere else. Therefore, dressing festively for warm weather has its pros and cons.Â
I'm certainly not complaining but it is hard to feel and dress like itâs Christmas-time since we canât necessarily really break out a nice sweater and sit by the fireplace. However, that won't stop us from being stylish! Here are the five ways I choose to dress in order to keep the festivities fashionable despite the warm weather here in Miami:
Use of Color:Â Red, green and gold are traditional holiday colors and they happen to be very trendy this year as well. Try the tone on tone approach to modernize it â You can even match your accessories with the same color; it is a new and fun way to wear these colors.
A Little (or a Lot) of Sparkle: Any outfit that has shine to it will say, "I'm ready to have fun."  Sequins has been a favorite for a while now, but now we can also add brocade and lamé to the list of reflective fabrics that will make anyone shine! The only caveat? Get ready to be the center of attention!Â
Tuxedo Trend: For those of you whom like to remain more minimalist, I would absolutely recommend this trend of black and white. This is another festive and chic approach that we are borrowing from the boys' closet and I really love it.Â
Black With Embellishments:Â Every girl should have the perfect âlittle black dressâ for their body type; this should be a staple in everyone's wardrobe. With that being said, one can always dress it up for a party just by adding a new embellished belt, or a statement necklace. You can also add a pop of holiday color in your shoes or clutch, which will complete this look.
Winter White: Yes, white for winter IS trending right now! And while in Miami, do as the Miamians do, and wear white during the holidays! In fact, I save my white dress for a NYE party. I've been doing this all my life because this is actually a Brazilian tradition: In Brazil everyone wears white on the 31st of December! You do it to welcome the new year with peace, and white represents that very idea.Â
These are some of my tips on how to keep the style alive even when I hear: "Baby, it is warm outside."
Happy Holidays to all!
I met a guy while out for my birthday with friends. Before the night was over, weâd made out, heâd asked me what I wanted for my birthday and asked me back to his place (I let him know thatâs not my style). After texting each other for a week, I reminded him about his birthday offer and asked him to join me for a movie date.
He said yes, but when we met at the movie theater, he had forgotten his wallet and had to leave early to pick up a friend from the airport. I was annoyed; this was supposed to be my birthday gift from him! He later texted to apologize and asked for a rain check. I said "maybe." I feel like he should have paid. This was my first date since my divorce three years ago. Have things changed so much? Is he just not interested?
Traditional & Pissed
You asked him out after turning him down for what may have turned out to be a one-night stand and he still wanted to go out with you. Hell yes, the man is interested. Not interested would have been illustrated by the sound of chirping crickets in his wake after being denied sex the first time you met.
Now let's break down your dilemma, shall we? You called him for the movie, amiga, which takes away any expectation for covering the date on his end. Traditional values like chivalry aren't dead, which is nice. But after verifying my extremely unofficial hypothesis through a reliable source (My husband loves when I call him that), I'm gonna have to stand up for your man on this point. Not only did he make time to meet you for the movie on what was obviously an already busy night, he also demonstrated that he's a pretty decent guy who doesn't shirk his responsibilities or break promises. Forgetting his wallet at home as he hurried out the door to meet you before rushing off to pick his friend up from the airport only tells us that he's human. The fact that your man texted to apologize for skipping out early speaks volumes. That rain check request speaks even louder. He wouldn't have bothered reaching out (or cared enough about your feelings to say he's sorry) if he wasn't interested.
Give the guy a breakâand another chance. In fact, if you can stop being paranoid long enough to recognize his genuine interest in you (and just have fun!) you just might make it a second date. Getting back into the relationship game after marriage is stressful, so go easy on yourself as well. Think of it as Teen-Angst, Round 2. You've got all the pressures and anxieties that come with meeting men, first date freak-outs, while managing adult life and responsibilities. That's no easy task. The trick is to re-establish your confidence. Once you can skip past the OhMyGawd DoesHeLikeMe? meltdowns and saunter up to your date knowing youâre a woman who doesn't need a man (but likes having one around), it's a whole new ballgame.
-Second dates are way less stress, anyway... âP

What a PERFECT day to talk about Gratitude & Giving Thanks as I sit here in my home office in complete silence with my dog Turbo laying under my desk at my feet and drinking a warm cup of coffee I canât help but feel GRATEFUL & THANKFUL. To me everyday is special because I am alive. It doesnât have to be my birthday for me to celebrate. Like I say on the radio, âto me every hour is happy hour!â
Let me start off by saying THANK YOU to each and everyone of you that log onto Latina.com to read my weekly blog.
I am thankful that I get to do what I love, which is write, and you are open to the message of being a fabulous Latina in our crazy/fabulous world. I write about what I am inspired to write and I do it from the heart. THANK YOU for being part of my weekly life.
Saying thank you should be part of your everyday life, and I donât mean saying thank you to someone just because they did something for you I mean saying THANK YOU always. Even through the hardships say THANK YOU.
Constantly show your gratitude, appreciation and love for the people and things around you. If you are a mom itâs like constantly reminding your kids you love them, the same thing applies to saying THANK YOU, itâs an everyday thing and it must come from the heart.
Being in gratitude really comes from stopping and realizing all the amazing things that are going on. Itâs about waking up and seeing you can wiggle your toes and hands and saying THANK YOU. Right now as I type this I am thankful that I can move my fingers. I know that may sound corny but thatâs how real your gratitude must become.
Say thank you for sight, for your warm bed, for your car and the fact that you can fill it with gas, give thanks for the struggles you face it is all part of your journey. Bottom line is you MUST NEVER STOP saying thank you. Ever! Remember what you do your kids will repeat. How about getting them into the good habit of saying thank you and practicing gratitude.
A really cool habit I have formed this year has been to say THANK YOU out loud 10 times before jumping out of bed. It puts me in a very GRATEFUL & THANKFUL state of mind because that is all I infuse my brain with every morning. Itâs a habit that when done frequently like anything else will become normal. I know a lot of times itâs tempting to want to jump on social media right away but NO say THANK YOU first.
Just like you get out of bed shower and do the normal routine of brushing your teeth getting dressed, etc the same thing must happen with saying THANK YOU!
MAKE IT A HABIT!
By acknowledging youâre grateful you become a deliberate attractor of positive vibrations.
Did you know that appreciation, gratitude and love are the highest forms of vibration?
You can only have one vibration at a time, and if you are noticing what you appreciate and noticing what you are grateful for, you can't be noticing what you don't like.
One of my mentors told me:
âDecide today that you are going to reduce negativity in your life by getting rid of the 'don'ts,' 'nots' and 'no's. Get in the habit of appreciating things."Â
An attitude of Gratitude is the way to a happy life and it begins with becoming aware.
Rememeber this: You can never say THANK YOU enough
